Planning your search

Searching for journal articles or other types of literature? This section of the guide will help you plan your search.

The search process

Searching is a process, and a good way to start is to think about your research question or topic, and consider the type of journal articles you need to answer it effectively.

The search process can be listed in these three steps:

  1. Identifying key concepts

  2. Brainstorming keywords

  3. Building a search strategy

You will often find yourself moving back and forth between these steps, refining your searches as you find more information.
