On this page, learn how to add library resources and web sources, request digitisations, and request new materials for your lists.
To add a resource to your list from the Library’s collection:
Keep your search simple – search by title and/or author last name.
To specify which section or chapter students need to read – open the item record and put that information in the Public note.
Some of our resources can’t be found this way. When a search of the Library's collection doesn't yield results, follow instructions in the Add web sources section.
Save resources from the web directly to Leganto with a browser tool called Cite it! These web sources could be openly available articles, videos or websites, but also books, chapters or articles that UNSW Library does not subscribe to or hold, but you would like us to purchase.
To add Cite it! to your browser, follow these steps:
Now, whenever you’re on a web page that you want to add to Leganto, click the Cite it! button on your toolbar to prompt a pop up. You can save the web page as is, or to have your students read part of the web page/chapter from a book/section from a video etc., provide the details in the Public note.
The Library team will review the record and update the bibliographic information if necessary.
If you added Cite It! to your browser before 2025, follow the steps above to add the new version.
The Library can digitise a portion of text in print-only items, in accordance with Australian copyright laws.
To request a digitisation:
The Library will be notified of the note and will assess the copyright restrictions for that item.
Once the digitisation is complete, a download button will appear in the item record.
Australian Copyright
For print books, one chapter or 10% of the total number of pages, whichever is greater, can be digitised.
For journal articles in a journal issue, only one article can be used, unless they relate to the same subject.
For more information, see UNSW Library Copyright for teaching.
Use Leganto's Cite it! tool to request new material for teaching. If you already have Cite it!, skip to Step 5:
The Library will review the record and investigate if purchase is possible. We will communicate with you via tags or Library discussion.
If you added Cite It! to your browser before 2025, follow the steps above in the Add web sources section, to add the new version.
Teaching academics and the Library have a joint responsibility to ensure course resources are readily available to our students.
The Library will always try to obtain an electronic version of a resource, however, many publishers market titles primarily for individual sale rather than institutional sale. If an electronic version is not available, print will be obtained instead.
See UNSW Library Course Resources Guidelines for more detail, or contact your Outreach Librarian.
