The objective of this resource is to inform the UNSW community of changes to the library collection and transformative agreements the University is piloting from 2022.

Company of Biologists agreement

Agreement duration: The UNSW agreement is from 1st January 2022 - 31st December 2022.

Summary: The Company of Biologists is a not-for-profit publishing organisation which aims to support scholarship in the biological sciences. This agreement offers UNSW corresponding authors open access publishing in all five Company of Biologists journals.

Titles included: All five included journals are listed on the Company of Biologists homepage.

Information for authors: Please see the publisher's guide for authors and guidelines for corresponding authors.

Acceptance date: Eligible articles that have an acceptance date during the term of this agreement (2022) are eligible to be published open access under the terms of the agreement.

Number of included articles: There is no limit on the number of articles that can be published by UNSW corresponding authors under the agreement.

How to submit your article for open access publishing:

  1. The UNSW corresponding author should follow the article submission process via the Company of Biologists website.

  2. On acceptance of the article, the publisher will ask the corresponding author to complete a form (publishing agreement).

  3. On acceptance of the manuscript, the payment system will allow UNSW corresponding authors to choose UNSW as their institution and remove the open access fee. Articles from authors at participating institutions will be published under a CC-BY licence.

  4. To comply with the Open Access policy the UNSW corresponding author will need to retain the rights to either the Published Version of Record or Author Accepted Manuscript, and deposit into UNSWorks using a CC-BY licence.

Corresponding authors must use their UNSW email address when submitting an article for publication in order for the publication to be approved to be published open access with no transactional APCs.

Corresponding authors should not use personal email addresses (e.g., Hotmail, Gmail).
