Collection updates

The objective of this resource is to inform the UNSW community of changes to the Library Collection and open access publishing agreements in which the University participates.

Oxford University Press (OUP) Open Access Publishing Agreement

Agreement duration: The UNSW agreement is from 1 January 2025 - 31 December 2027. 

Acceptance date:  Eligible articles that have an acceptance date during the term of this agreement  from 1 January 2025 - 31 December 2027 are eligible to be published open access. 

Summary: Oxford University Press(OUP) is a department of the University of Oxford. They publish over 500 peer-reviewed journals including many society journals. The OA publishing component of the agreement covers hybrid journals. UNSW Library's subscription allows all UNSW staff and students to have full read access to the complete OUP journal collection. UNSW Library has also entered into the bolt-on agreement that covers four fully open journals agreement from MNRAS. There is no limit on the number of articles that can be published OA in eligible hybrid journals under this agreement. A 10% discount is provided against author-facing open access charges in the Publisher’s applicable Fully OA Journals. Hybrid journals that 'flip' to fully OA during the course of this agreement will remain available for OA publishing for the duration of the agreement.

OUP does charge additional fees for page and/or colour fees. Authors should always check each journal’s submission guidelines to ensure that they will not be subject to any other fees or charges.

Information for authors: This agreement includes all current UNSW researchers including HDR candidates and must use their UNSW institutional email address (name@unsw.edu.au) to be eligible and to help verify affiliation.This agreement allows researchers to publish open access under a CC BY or CC BY-NC licence.

For journal response times between submission and acceptance you should check the specific journal guidelines for accurate information.

Eligible article types: Research Articles, Review Articles, Case Reports, Brief Reports. For clarity, articles in supplements (i.e. specifically designated issues supplementary to a journal’s usual publication, often sponsored by third parties), are not considered to be Eligible Articles

Sharing via repositories: UNSW corresponding authors can comply with the Open Access policy by retaining the rights to the Author Accepted Manuscript and depositing a copy into UNSWorks using a CC BY licence.

How to submit your article for open access publishing:

  1. The UNSW corresponding author should follow the OUP author submission workflow. UNSW RingGold is 7800. More information is available via the OUP Author Guide.
  2. The submitted article with go through thorough peer review.
  3. OUP will identify eligible articles that have been submitted by eligible authors and will indicate the availability of this agreement to UNSW affiliated authors as identified using Ringgold ID.
  4. To comply with the Open Access policy the UNSW corresponding author will need to retain the rights to Author Accepted Manuscript and deposit into UNSWorks using a CC BY licence.

Corresponding authors should not use personal email addresses (e.g. Hotmail, Gmail) or email addresses affiliated with other organisations, research centres or institutes. Otherwise they may be ineligible under the terms of this agreement.
