Collection updates

The objective of this resource is to inform the UNSW community of changes to the Library Collection and open access publishing agreements in which the University participates.

Lippincott Williams Wilkins Open Access Publishing Agreement

Agreement duration: The UNSW agreement is from 1 January 2024 - 31 December 2026 or until the annual publication cap is reached.

Acceptance date: Eligible articles that have an acceptance date during the term of this agreement are eligible to be published open access under the terms of the agreement.

Summary: Lippincott Wiliams & Wilkins (LWW) is a global publisher of medical, nursing and allied health research journals. The LWW Total Access Collection offers full-text journals including core clinical titles as well as more specialized journals in niche topics. There is a maximum number of articles, dependant on the journal of publication. UNSW's entitlement is approximately 35 articles per annum. Once the allowance is used, corresponding authors of any additional articles accepted in 2025 may choose to publish articles as "closed access" or to pay an author-facing APC for the article to be published open access.

Titles included: 2025 LWW Hybrid Open Access Title List (subject to publisher changes). NB: Although the list of Hybrid Open Access titles show prices, if the article is accepted in an eligible journal title, a $0.00 APC will then be applied. 

Information for authors: This agreement includes all current UNSW researchers including HDR candidates and must use their UNSW institutional email address (name@unsw.edu.au) to be eligible and to help verify affiliation. RingGold is also used to affiliate. For journal response times between submission and acceptance you should check the specific journal guidelines for accurate information.

Eligible article types: Research articles (including case reports) and Reviews. The following article types are not Eligible Articles: Editorials, Correspondence, Abstracts and Errata.

Sharing via repositories: UNSW corresponding authors can comply with the Open Access policy by retaining the rights to the Author Accepted Manuscript and depositing a copy into UNSWorks (via ROS) using a CC BY licence.

How to submit your article for open access publishing: 

  1. The UNSW corresponding author should follow the usual article submission process on the journal's website page LWW Hybrid Open Access for UNSW. Refer to the Recognised funding bodies and institutions (Wolters Kluwer/University of New South Wales Agreement).

  2. On acceptance of the eligible article in an eligible journal title, the publisher will ask the corresponding author to complete a form (publishing agreement).

  3. On acceptance of the manuscript, the payment system will allow UNSW corresponding authors to choose UNSW as their institution and request the open access fee be waived. Articles from authors at participating institutions will be published under a CC BY  or CC BY NC-ND licence.

  4. To comply with the Open Access policy the UNSW corresponding author will need to retain the rights to either the Published Version of Record or Author Accepted Manuscript, and deposit into UNSWorks using a CC BY licence.

Corresponding authors should not use personal email addresses (e.g. Hotmail, Gmail) or email addresses affiliated with other organisations, research centres or institutes. Otherwise they may be ineligible under the terms of this agreement.
